Dr. Frodsham was born in Indianapolis, IN, but moved around a lot as a child: Texas, Brazil, Texas again and Utah. It was clear even as a young child that he was a people helper at his very core, so medicine was a natural fit for him.

Interventional Radiology was less evident. He entered medical school thinking he’d end up in Emergency Medicine or maybe Orthopedic Surgery; but after he heard about a specialty where doctors were using technology and imaging as the eyes while they did major procedures (stroke treatments, stopping gastro-intestinal bleeding, cancer therapies, etc.) he was hooked!

He spent four years at Yale University, Hospital of St. Raphael learning and practicing radiology reading and interpretation before doing his Fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Brown University, Rhode Island Hospital. He developed his love and skills in treating cancers, vascular disease and spine work with some of the best IR physicians in the country.

The call of the mountains and deserts of Utah brought Dr. Frodsham happily back to Utah where he’s worked in both private and academic hospitals. His conviction about providing exceptional medical care in outpatient settings inspired him to bring the first outpatient Interventional Radiology clinic to Utah.

When he’s not improving and saving patients’ lives, he can be found skiing, surfing (not in Utah), doing yoga, biking, hiking, cooking (you haven’t lived until he’s grilled a burger for you), and laughing with friends and family.

Sona Mehandru, MD

Director, Women's Health

Dr. Mehandru has been practicing vascular & interventional radiology for more than 7 years with a unique passion and commitment to excellent patient care. Having a very broad range of expertise in image-guided minimally-invasive procedures, her main focus is always on ensuring that her patients receive the most cutting-edge treatments in the most compassionate way possible. She believes that building robust, thriving collaborative relationships with referring physicians is critically important in this process. Her work in every practice setting has been characterized by this level of dedication and skill, and has been repeatedly recognized by her patients, colleagues, and IR team members.

She is board-certified in Vascular/Interventional Radiology by the American Board of Radiology (formerly known as a Certificate of Added Qualification). In addition to her expertise in adult vascular & interventional procedures, she also completed an additional year of specialized training in pediatric interventions. Having trained directly under one of the most world-renowned experts in pediatric interventional radiology, Dr. William Shiels, she acquired very specialized training in performing minimally-invasive treatments of vascular anomalies — a rare skill set. Yet regardless of the age of her patient or the disease she is treating, Dr. Mehandru’s practice ethos remains immutable: “Always do what is best for the patient. Period.”

When not performing interventional radiology, Dr. Mehandru enjoys creative writing (she is a published poet), reading – she is an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction books on a variety of topics, amateur astronomy, jewelry-making, and she is always trying to get better at meditation and similar spiritual pursuits. Yet her favorite hobby of all is spending quality time with her family in the beautiful Mountain West. She recently took up fly-fishing and is very excited to begin learning everything she can about fish, insects, and rivers, all while enjoying the pristine natural scenery around her.
